The Vintage
The 2008 vintage was an interesting one with it being overall warm and dry. The fruit ripened quickly with each variety following on to the next and with no break in harvesting for 2 weeks. Although the wines from this year may show less varietal characters than usual they still are complex well balanced wines.
Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Semillons’ bouquet exhibits a richness of kiwifruit with grapefruit and peach overtones.These fruits carry through onto the palate combining with natural acid and a well balanced texture to give an exceptional long lingering mouthfeel.
This wine will cellar for at least 8 years.
Chardonnay
The bouquet of the 2008 Chardonnay shows pear and white flesh peach fruit with a hint of nutmeg. This carries through onto the palate to combine with the crystalline acid and selective oak to provide good length with mineral notes.
This wine will cellar for 10-12 years.
Gamay
The 2008 Gamay’s colour is a vibrant magenta with hues of brick and violet. The nose exhibits spiced cherry and berry fruit. This carries through onto the palate creating nice structure and middle weight. This wine has rich dry lingering finish.
Cellaring potential 5 years plus.
Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc/ Merlot
The nose of exhibits exquisite ripe plums and black currants with a hint of blueberries. The palate is full with rich complex tannins and nice well integrated unobtrusive oak. This wine shows delightful fruit combining with the above to provide a strong well balanced wine.
This wine will age for 10 years plus.
