The Vintage
This was a cooler vintage compared to the surrounding ones. We had rain on average of once a week so it was a fairly easy vintage providing your disease regime was up to date. The wines of this vintage may display some of those cooler year characters.
Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon
The 2000 Sauvignon Blanc has a distinctive gooseberry and herbaceous nose with a slightly restrained aroma which breathes with time. This wine has an remarkably complex palate showing numerous fruits and refined acid leaving it well balanced which gives the wine its persistence making it a great food wine.
Chardonnay
The 2000 Chardonnay’s’ bouquet offers you complexity of fruit and oak. This carries through onto the palate where the definitive minerally sensation blends with the pear and melon flavours combining with all the components of the malolactic fermentation and natural yeast fermentation resulting in a lingering well balanced palate.
Gamay
The nose of this Gamay exhibits white pepper combined with prune and mulberry fruit. The palate is well balanced, with good fruit, nice acid, and flavoursome tannins. The wines lingering palate finishes with its classic spicy flavour which make it a great accompaniment with a wide range of food. This wine will develop more savoury characters with bottle age.
Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc/ Merlot
The aroma of this wine displays typical blackcurrant with cedar overtones. This follows through onto the palate combined with slight dark plum flavours creating a full bodied well structured wine with dusty fine grain tannins.
Havelock Hills Shiraz
The nose of this wine is quite up front showing pepper and red berries. The palate is a symphony of both, being well balanced, integrating spicy and savoury flavours with a rounded pepper finish.
