The Vintage
The 2004 vintage had average temperatures. The rainfall in January was a bit higher than usual so because of the humidity we had to be on the lookout for disease. Fortunately February stayed warm and dry so the fruit went on to achieve desired ripeness and flavours.
Sauvignon Blanc
The nose of the 2004 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon shows plenty of hebaceousness combined with grapefruit. These aromas continue, and combine with a faint minerally sensation on the palate. It follows through well to exhibit a clean crisp long lingering finish.
This wine is expected to cellar for 8-10 years.
Chardonnay
The nose of the 2004 chardonnay is showing fresh peach and nashi fruit overtones. The palate is luscious while still maintaining nice harmony between obvious fruit, classy oak and flinty acidity. The flavours carry on leaving an elegant soft lingering mouthfeel.
Cellaring Potential 10 years plus.
Gamay
The bouquet of the 2004 Gamay reveals a combination of fruit and spice. The aroma of cherry with undertones of red currant is addictive. These carry through onto the palate to combine with good clean acid, slight oak, and traditional tannins to make this wine a choice example of a well balanced wine.
This Gamay will cellar for at least 10 years.
Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc/ Merlot
The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot is showing plenty of black cherry and red currant aromas. The rich colour entices you to the palate which combines the above fruit flavours with stewed quince. Well integrated fine grain tannins and nice spicy oak provide the palate with extra length and dimension.
Cellaring potential 10 years plus.
