2005 Tasting Notes

The Vintage

The 2005 vintage was very good. The growing season was a comfortable one with good weather at flowering. Rain in December and February meant the yield was good and ripening occurred easily, The fruit quality was exceptional for this year.

Sauvignon Blanc

The bouquet of the 2005 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon is subdued exhibiting fresh lychees and green peach. Its seductive aroma captures your interest and makes you yearn for the mouth flavours. The palate doesn’t disappoint with ripe lime minerality with a hint of tropical fruit. The acid and fruit is well balanced creating a clean defined palate, full of persistance.

This wine is expected to cellar for 8 years.

 

Chardonnay

The bouquet of the 2005 Chardonnay shows subtle fruit of melon with a hint of apricot. The palate gives you a delicious combination of these fruits, clean acid and fine oak. The creamy texture and well balanced finish has you looking for more.

Cellaring potential 8-10 years.

 

Gamay

The nose of the 2005 Gamay is closed at first only revealing a hint of stewed plums. This goes on to open out, and combine with mulberry and spice aromas creating an interesting start. The savoury palate includes these fruit flavours and fuses with fine grain tannins finishing with a silky, clean, crisp finish with a lingering small red berry taste.

This wine will cellar up to 8 years plus.

 

Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc/ Merlot

The bouquet of the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot is showing blackcurrants with a savoury undertone and a hint of cigar box. It has a rich colour and the palate is well balanced combining velverty tannins, unobtrusive acidity, a hint of black olives and finishes with a long lingering mouthfeel.
