The Vintage
The 2011 vintage was a challenge. The rain came and stayed. Our Copper and Sulpher regime had to be very strict and adhered to. Our pickers are to be commended for picking the best of the fruit left. Overall we were very lucky losing only 30% of the whites and 10% of the reds. The fruit that we did save managed to ripen and went on to produce wines of interesting characters.
Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon
The bouquet of the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon shows good lifted tropical spice with citrus and pineapple fruit overtones. This shines through on the palate combining with herbaceousness and sophisticated acidity. This wine has lovely length and definition with a lingering finish and will blossom with time.
Cellaring potential 10 years.
Chardonnay
The bouquet of the 2011 Chardonnay is at first restrained but then opens to discerning aromas of loquats and citrus with some peach overtones. This follows on to the pallet to reveal a richness with minerality. The oak is well integrated creating a fresh sensation with a lingering finesse.
This wine will cellar for 10 years plus.
Gamay
The nose of the 2011 Gamay exhibits ripe cherry with a hint of berry and spice. The cherry and berry fruit follows on to the palate with warm spicy overtones. The silkiness up front combines with the fine grain tannins to give good length with an overall luscious mouth feel.
This wine will cellar for 6 years plus.
Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc/ Merlot
The bouquet of the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc/ Merlot shows blackcurrant and dark cherry with a hint of pencil shavings and tea leaves. These flow on to create savouriness on the palate combining with fine grain tannin and clean acid to round the wine off with good length.
This wine will cellar for 8 years plus.
