The Vintage
The 2012 Vintage was marginally better than 2011. It was still wet and cool but the fruit ripened well albeit later without too much disease. We went on to lose only 10% whites of this year. The wines from this year have been likened to some of their french equivalents.
Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon
The complex nose of the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon exhibits gooseberries with an overlay of herbal notes and a hint of passionfruit. The palate is intense with lingering flavours of lime fruit and this is balanced with natural acidity.
Cellaring potential 8 years plus
Chardonnay
The nose of the 2012 Chardonnay shows aromas of white and yellow peach with citrus overtones. The fruit carries through on to the palate to combine with mealy traces which tightens it up and exposes the minerality. This wine has a full lingering mouthfeel.
It will cellar for ten years plus.
Gamay
The bouquet of the 2012 Gamay shows vibrant red and black fruit components. The cherry flavours are mixed with overtones of blackberry combining with some earthy herbal notes with a dusting of fresh pepper. The fine tannins are incredibly integrated in the pure and elegant structural finish with an extended spicey length.
This wine will cellar for 10 years plus.
Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/ Merlot
The nose of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot is showing subtle overtones of blackcurrant and vanilla with a hint of cigar box. These combine with the dark plum, agreeable tannins and delicate oak flavours to create a full, rich, well rounded wine.
This wine will cellar for a very long time, 10 years plus.
