2021 Tasting Notes

The Vintage

The 2021 vintage saw good rains compared to previous years,  average amount of winter rain which continued into the start of the grow season before stopping for a more mild, yet favourable temperature summer. There were a few cold snaps during flowering which have impacted the early varieties yields, however the fruit quality was excellent and the year produced good sized flavoursome grapes.

Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon

The nose of the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon shows bright and fresh citrus with a hint of gooseberry, following through onto the palate the citrus, gooseberry and ripening nashi shine through with crisp, balanced acid, giving the wine great length and a well-rounded lingering finish. This is one of the best we have seen for some years due to the cooler, ideal vintage conditions.

Gamay

The spiced plum and savoury cherry aromas of the 2021 Gamay follow through to the palate to combine with balanced acid and refined tannins. It finishes with a well-rounded lingering mouth feel which will integrate beautifully with time. The cooler, vintage conditions means although it is pleasant to drink at the moment, it will also benefit from some cellar time.

Chardonnay

The nose of the 2021 Chardonnay is showing a combination of citrus and lemon zest. This carries through to palate with hints of green apple and vanilla spice. The palate is well balanced with subtle mealiness, complimented with well integrated acid. It has great mouth-feel and shows good length with a nice clean finish.

Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc/ Merlot

The bouquet of the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot shows blackberries and wild cherries. The medley of dark fruit combined with elegant tannin and integrated oak creates a delicious mouthfeel with depth and lingering flavours. Still a young wine, it will benefit with cellar time.
