2014 Tasting Notes

The Vintage

The 2014 Vintage was marred by spring frost which kept our frost fan busy, consequently we managed to get  good quantity and quality of fruit from this year. The rains were plentiful in spring so the vines progressed normally in summer and then we went on to have the cooler nights over ripening for which we are well known for.

Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon

The 2014 Sauvignon Blanc Semillons bouquet is complex showing kiwifruit and gooseberries with hints of other tropical fruits. These fruits also show on the palate and intermingle with the crisp clean acid creating a delicious wonderful full lingering palate finishing with a slight lime zest character.

Chardonnay

The nose of the 2014 Chardonnay shows melon and peach with grapefruit undertones. This fruit is vibrant on the palate combing with the rounded barrel notes creating a textural experience. The acid is refined creating all-round a luscious long lingering palate.

Gamay

Red current and some juicy berries combined with various spices are evident on the nose. The fruit carries through onto the palate where fine grain tannins and natural acidity combine to develop an interesting full and long living palate finishing with allspice and notes of white pepper.

Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot

The bouquet of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot is exhibiting black currant, dark fruit and chocolate with cigar box under notes. This fruit follows on to the palate to meld with the fine grain tannins and multi-layered acidity. The palate is full and lingering.
