2016 Tasting Notes

The Vintage

The lead up to the 2016 Vintage in winter and spring was a little warmer than usual and so Vintage  was early, and short. We had to be careful to be always checking fruit flavours and beaumes but with careful management, the wines of this year are looking terrific.

Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon

The nose of the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon is enticing with fruits of guava and gooseberries with a hint of freshly mown hay. The palate is a combination of these with citrus and minerality combined creating a good long mouth feel with balanced acidity.

Chardonnay

Initially the nose of the 2016 Chardonnay is a little closed but it doesn’t take long to find honeydew melon and citrus with a mealy oak overtone. This carries on to the palate combining with hints of peach and apple  and slight spice from the oak. The acidity is well balanced with the oak creating a full lingering mouthfeel.

Gamay

The bouquet of the 2016 Gamay presents black cherry aromas with rich berry undertones. The full, smooth palate creates a soft, rounded mouth feel with hints of subtle spice. Balanced acid and restrained tannins compliment the wine adding to the layers of complexity.

Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot

The nose of the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Blend shows a composition of plum and cassis with a hint of blackberry . Subsequently the palate reflects these aromas with the addition of noteworthy tannin and balanced acid. This wine has fantastic length and will cellar well.
