2017 Tasting Notes

The Vintage

The 2017 vintage was preceded by a wet winter and cool spring and continued to be cool throughout January. Harvest was a little later than past years, similar in timing to the 1990’s. The wines all have qualities you would expect from a cooler vintage.

Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon

The nose of the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon shows aromas of passionfruit and citrus. The palate combines these with gooseberry and desert lime intermingling with the minerality creating a wine with exceptional elegance and length.

Chardonnay

The bouquet of the 2017 Chardonnay displays aromas of citrus with some peach overtones. This follows on to the pallet to reveal an extensive and complex finish. The noteworthy oak compliments the refreshing, integrated acid creating a balanced, multi dimensional wine.

Gamay

The nose of the 2017 Gamay exhibits sweet cherry with a hint of spice. The palate has plenty of berry fruits with nice spice and white pepper. The palate is long and lingering with well balanced acid and subtle dusty tannins.

Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot is showing sour cherry and cassis aromas. The palate combines the above fruit flavours with savoury hints of cigar box and moderate oak overtones. Well integrated fine grain tannins and good acid create a full bodied well-structured wine with notable length and lingering mouthfeel.
