2018 Tasting Notes

The Vintage

The 2018 vintage was a bit warmer than the previous year with good spring rains in November and December and cool until the beginning of January. These conditions enabled the vines to flourish when the hotter weather arrived late January/ early February. The fruit came in clean and full of flavour and the wines of this vintage are looking to be excellent quality.

Chardonnay

The nose of the 2018 Chardonnay is showing peaches and white nectarine. The stone fruit flavours carry on to the palate combining with a hint of lemon. Minerality and subtle oak with inherent acid create a textural multi layered Chardonnay that stays true to the style we are known for.

Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon

The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon shows a bouquet of mixed citrus with a touch of golden kiwifruit and subtle herbal characters. The palate is tight with minerality and a hint of grapefruit. These characters combine to produce a multi layered wine with excellent length and finesse.

Gamay

The bouquet of the 2018 Gamay is showing spicy dark plum with a hint of cherry. These fruits follow through onto the palate combining with the dusty tannins and sound acid to create a savoury and spicy long lingering finish.

Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot

The 2018 Cabernet nose displays dark cherries with a hint of cranberry. This fruit profile flows onto the palate combining with nice spicy oak and firm yet restrained tannin. This creates a well-balanced, long lingering mouth feel.
