2022 Tasting Notes

The Vintage

The 2022 vintage was a wet and cool one, la NiƱa. Consistent rain throughout the season saw the vines with prolific growth after quite a few drier years. Thankfully the rain lightened off closer to harvest which meant with carefully management of the vines and grapes, we remained relatively disease free with a good crop. The fruit was flavoursome and great quality with a fair yield.

Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon

The aromas of the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon exhibit fresh citrus with loquat and cape gooseberry which follow through to the palate combining with balanced acid and a good texture to give an exceptional long lingering mouthfeel with depth and dimension.

Gamay

The 2022 Gamay is showing traits of a cooler year with pronounced fruit and vibrant acid. The dark cherry, plum and raspberry follow through to the palate, combining all with the subtle tannins creating a tight, yet moreish finish. The cooler, vintage conditions means although it is pleasant to drink at the moment, it will also benefit from some cellar time.

Chardonnay

The aromas of melon with citrus peel undertones follow onto the palate of the 2022 Chardonnay, creating a lively and vibrant wine with good length and a defined finish. The cooler, vintage conditions means although it is pleasant to drink at the moment, it will also benefit from some cellar time.

Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot

The aromas of the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot show dark plum intermingled with blackcurrants and elements of cigar box. This medley carries through to the palate with tight acidity, complex fine grain tannin and spicy oak. Providing extra length and dimension. Still a young wine, it will benefit with cellar time.
